Thinking about abandoning (taditional) cable TV..

After a co-worker introduced me to Miro and after lately upgrading my home Internet connection speed to 2.5MB I got to think that maybe I need to free myself from traditional cable TV.

Pros (for abandoning them):

  1. they cost around 70$ a month.
  2. I only watch specific channels and programs.
  3. most of the content is reality/stupid talk shows.

Cons (for staying):

  1. sometimes you just want to drop in front of something just to clear your head and you don’t have the mental power to search for content.
  2. they have VOD with a lot of free content which is sometimes quite interesting.

I guess I’ll try to live one month w/o switching to regular cable TV (just keep my TV set on PC connection) and see how it goes… I might be joining the trend I see lately of people switching off cables and moving into an internet only mode :)

Streaming, on demand music has been re-invented

December 21st, 2008 Amit No comments

deezer.com – this is the real thing guys.

This is going to be the Facebook of streaming, on demand music.

I didn’t even bother checking all the amazingly cool features they have there (blind test, smart radio, MP3 upload, all kind of preset radios and stuff). instead I started filling my play list with all the albums I could ever hear.

Have fun.

Zend Wedding – Mazal Tov.

April 9th, 2008 Amit No comments

It was a warm spring night in Jaffa Israel yesterday and Zeev Suraski married Ania Tarnavskaya.

I saw quite a few Zend weddings during the past 8 years but this one had something almost magical in it.

It was also nice to see some people who have been working for Zend in the past and came to celebrate with Zeev and Anya.
